This should be an hour-long, alcohol-infused conversation. The differences are so subtle, but that's what makes The Ref so brilliant. That and Judy Davis. This doesn't do it justice but I think I can sum it up this way...The Ref is about a family of assholes that pretend to hate each other but really love each other. They also seem self-confident but they are pretty insecure. These other movies are about families of self-important assholes who pretend to love each other but really, each character really only loves himself/herself and they might actually all hate each other if we get to the bottom of it. And then as an outward show of their "love" they do hokey things like family talent shows and family flag football and all that bullshit. And they are all just assholes. Sarah Jessica Parker should have taken the first bus out of town.
* Watched Dan in Real Life again today. It is worse the second time. * But they aren't so much selfish assholes as totally unbelievable and annoying. * Dane Cook .... Dane Cook. * I hate that movie. * I am glad Anne Hathaway did not win a Golden Globe. Though I would give her an Emmy for her Mary Poppins skit on SNL.

I made it about 30 minutes through Dan in Real Life before realizing that I was having a miserable time and turning it off.
