this is way more impressive than shows i have seen in 2009
1. Andrew Bird - House of Blues (march or april i think)
2. cheesey easy listening band playing by cooincidence at Daily Review tonight while i was at dinner.
note - how do you spell check on this thing? i know i probably have some errors
I feel this list deserves a Top 5 or so. What were your thoughts?
I'll just say the world can use some more NRO.
But they've gotta Stand Up. Or so I hear...
All I know right now is Ailey co. is #1, but not the Sweet Honey part, which was kind of literal. But the dance to Otis Redding music and Revelations (which can always touch my cold cold heart) were so great.
Now the cover band is playing China Grove.
Oh, I also went to a "concert" on the City Hall plaza one day in early April, I think. It was T-Bird and the Breaks, and it might be #2 on my favorite list, even though I had forgotten it.
at the risk of personifying the term "assclown", I must say I've heard of only one of these bands. I'd gladly pay someone Tuesday for a mixtape today.
Julie -- Can't! Going to Bonnie Prince Billy tonight in Houston.
Ron -- Going to Bonnie Prince Billy tonight in Houston. Maybe they have tickets left.
p.s. I am so excited, but in a way that involves no clapping or jumping. I guess my soul and brain are excited but not so much my body. Hm. This is an interesting concept that I have just now thought of and will have to ponder. Off to lunch. PF Chang's - so authentic!
QT - no, they're mostly either friends, friends of friends, local, or were just also playing at the SXSW day parties I went to because of the 1-2 bands I actually wanted to see.
Friends or not friends, we should introduce QT to San Saba County and Noise Revival Orchestra because they are both awesome.
I am assuming you are not friends with Bishop Allen*, Cursive***, the Avett Brothers**, Horsefeathers**, and Fanfarlo*/** because if you are I will be jealous because they are awesome also.
(*stole from Austen **stole from Derek *** stole from Aimee Eicher)
I don't know if I love Deertick but every time I am near Derek it is on the radio so I think they are probably good too.
centro-matic is all mine! (but hey, we kind of know them too through friends right? Or ex-wives of husbands of friends of friends or something?)
good list, anyway. Ron I will make you a cd and put it next to the Brand New cd.
what a sad state of affairs...brand new owns my world, but alas, I've never really been considered "cool"
