OK, here it is.
I would like to add, what a good idea. And also, I did not look at Jon's list as requested. So let the discussions begin. I am very concerned about who all I have forgotten.

WHOA. I totally forget on My #1 man Jeff Bridges - everything EXCEPT for that ridiculous *The Vanishing* which really is so terrible it really only adds to how much I love him.
Ugh, I definitely forgot Jeff Bridges (especially Fearless and Big Lebowski)...
Now I'm mad that I forgot Oldman and Roth...
Nice call on Duvall...
I am surprised that I didn't put Quaid but I never really liked him for his "acting".
Extra kudos for Eight Men Out.
Seriously. This is hard. I need a do-over and a top 100.
I am surprisingly OK with this list. Some people I just remembered are:
Viggo
James Marsden
Chris Cooper. Oh, Matewan....
But I think I am ok with them in the 25-30 range. I am sure there are more to come.
My top 5 are MY TOP 5. like, forever.
At least until I see The Road and Viggo skyrockets to the top.
I am relieved that you are second guessing. I would never attempt this because I don't have access (mentally) to of all the movies I've seen and performances within those movies. Meaning my memory sucks. So I know I would compile a list and then wish I'd put so-and-so on. And then the next day, another name. And then the next day, I'd have forgotten about the list altogether. But kudos to you three. I'll be updating my Netflix queue.
I think there are different approaches to this. I did my favorite actors, not my favorite performances. I think Ron did too.
Favorite performances would be a very different list, with people repeating, probably, and it would start with Jon's number 3.
I think you could do it if you take this approach. So, CHALLENGE.
I definitely tried to do my favorite performances. A lot of the people on my list are NOT my favorite actors.
I have a better list challenge though for the actresses: How about top 10?
Dummy? Really?
That's funny because when I read it, I thought praise be to 30 Rock for bringing Dummy back.
You do not know me at all. Julie, how is it possible that we never watched Magnolia???? I know we tried at least ten times. It might be because it's 3 hours long. Yes, set your watch.
I'm such a dummy.
:-(
Julie, please make sure your watch does not GLOW, Thanks.
Unfortunately, I no longer have that watch. It was awesome.
I don't think we ever even tried to watch Magnolia.
I don't think I am going to attempt this. I might try a TV list, though. Repetition enhances my memory, I guess.
This is where I'm confused. If you were just doing your favorite actors, why did you and QT mention specific roles? Otherwise, wouldn't it just be a list of names? Maybe I am stoops.
read the film experience blog at the link.
i think QT just added the one movie that best exemplified the greatness.
i picked the one movie that made me love these guys the most or realize how brilliant they are.
Agreed. Though in all honesty I think it is a combination of all methods. Certianly a celebration of actors (capital "A"), the list is mix of my favorite leading men (Denzel, Christian Bale, Gosling, Franco), favorite performances by some that may not technically be my favorite actors (Pearce in Memento, Bernal in Bad Education), and like Blaine, roles that made me wake up and smell the genius (DiCaprio in RR, Hurt in History of Violence - sorry, I've never been punctual).
p.s. - Two reasons Crimson Tide is awesome: (1). Denzel Washington, (2). Hans Zimmer. One reason it is not: (1). Gene Hackman
I'm sorry I can't hear you. Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman are shouting too much.
